SUMMARY OF:

Implementing Decision 2014/366/EU setting up the list of cooperation programmes and indicating the financial support from the European Regional Development Fund for each programme under the European territorial cooperation goal for the period 2014-2020

WHAT IS THE AIM OF THE DECISION?

It sets out the list of cooperation programmes under the European territorial cooperation goal for the period 2014-2020, and the financial support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for each programme.

KEY POINTS

Cross-border cooperation programmes (Interreg A)

Cross-border cooperation refers to cooperation between NUTS III regions from at least 2 different EU countries lying directly on the borders or adjacent to them. It aims to tackle common challenges and growth potential in border areas.

There are 60 cross-border cooperation programmes, for a global ERDF contribution of €6,597,822,373.

Transnational cooperation programmes (Interreg B)

Transnational cooperation involves regions from several countries of the EU forming bigger areas to tackle common issues. Interreg B supports project investment in a wide range of areas including innovation, environment, accessibility, telecommunications and urban development, and can involve EU countries in partnership with non-EU countries within Europe and countries on other continents.

There are 15 transnational cooperation programmes, for a global ERDF contribution of €2,119,431,627.

Interregional cooperation programmes (Interreg C)

Interregional cooperation works across the whole of Europe, including non-EU countries. It builds networks to develop good practice and encourages successful regions to share their experiences, showcasing what regions do well for the benefit of others.

There are 4 interregional cooperation programmes, for a total ERDF contribution of €514,397,835.

Cross-border programmes under the IPA II

This second phase of the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA II) aims to help countries wishing to join the EU to carry out comprehensive reforms to prepare for their membership. This is mainly achieved by aligning their rules and policies with EU standards and practices. The EU countries involved in programmes with pre-accession countries are Bulgaria, Greece, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Hungary and Romania.

Programmes under the IPA II involve a total ERDF contribution of €242,207,412.

Cross-border and sea-basin programmes under the ENI

The European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI) provides most of the funding to the 16 partner countries covered by the European neighbourhood policy (ENP). The countries covered by ENI are Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Morocco, occupied Palestinian territory (oPt), Syria, Tunisia and Ukraine.

Programmes under the ENI involve a total ERDF budget of €634,425,381.

FROM WHEN DOES THE DECISION APPLY?

It has applied since 17 June 2014.
